The Internet was down for about an hour today. The resulting scene on campus looked something like this:
What a blessing! People got more things done. Students in my dorm interacted, face-to-face. The girl sitting next to me in class couldn’t open Perez Hilton – she had to focus. People stopped sitting on their email and Facebook. Honestly, when was the last time you got an absolutely urgent email requiring action or a reply within an hour? Or when a Facebook chat was a good substitute for talking to someone?
Well I thought it was good, anyway. I believe this is a case where limiting consumption can produce a better outcome.
